In central sleep apnea, the airway is not actually blocked; however the brain fails to signal the muscles to breathe. Mixed apnea, as the name implies, is a combination of the other two. The study was conducted on sleep apnea among the severely obese patients.<br />Results of this research study were published in an internationally reputed journal “Sleep” in the year 2003 and were titled as “anatomic and physiologic predictors of apnea severity in morbidly obese subjects”.
